PALM BAY, Fla., August 18, 2026 – SafeSky Systems USA has been named 2026 Innovator of the Year by the Space Coast Chapter of Women in Defense (WIDSC), an affiliate of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA). The award recognizes SafeSky’s work in unmanned aerial systems and its efforts to create a pathway from engineering education into the workforce on Florida’s Space Coast.

The Space Coast Chapter of Women in Defense supports the advancement and recognition of women in all aspects of national security while connecting professionals across government, industry and academia. SafeSky was selected from three qualified nominees following a review by the WIDSC awards panel.

SafeSky Systems’ student-to-employee pipeline was noted as a standout by the awards committee. Through the company’s presence at Vertex, SafeSky has brought on six student engineers from fields including aerospace, mechanical and electrical engineering, giving them hands-on experience in the unmanned systems industry and opportunities to continue developing their skills within the company as they transition into full-time roles.
